Reformer Pilates

Where resistance meets intention

The reformer is one of the most versatile pieces of equipment in movement training. Using a spring-based resistance system, it allows for a full-body workout that’s simultaneously challenging and low-impact – making it equally effective for someone returning from injury and someone training at their peak.

At Sum of Us, our reformer classes are led by qualified instructors with physiotherapy backgrounds. That means every session is built around how the body actually moves – not just how it looks doing it.

Sum of Us is a fantastic wellbeing studio in East Prahran Village. I regularly do Reformer Pilates classes and love the vibe. The instructors are fantastic and are always on hand to encourage and motivate.

Zain W - ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

As a Pilates instructor myself, it’s such a pleasure to attend classes instead of teach for a change. Sum of Us is a calm, clean, and beautifully relaxing space—but don’t let that fool you, the Pilates burn is very real!

Lucy M - ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Sum Of Us Studio is a stunning studio with wonderful instructors and teachers. I love how the rooms aren't overcrowded with reformer beds which makes it feel more intimate and personal. I'm so excited to join!

Amanda T - ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

A beautiful studio. I love that the classes are smaller so it feels more intimate. Every class finishes with a moment of mindfulness, closing the eyes and connecting with the body and breath which is so nice. Instructors tailor each exercise to suit different levels while keeping a nice flow from one exercise to the next. I would really recommend Sum Of Us. 😊

Reformer Pilates FAQs

Do I need any experience to join a reformer class?

No experience needed. We offer beginner-friendly classes and with a maximum of 8 participants per class, our instructors will walk you through everything in your first session. If you're unsure which class to start with, just get in touch and we'll point you in the right direction.

What's the difference between reformer and mat Pilates?

Mat Pilates uses bodyweight only. The reformer adds spring-based resistance, which allows for a greater range of exercises and more precise load management - particularly useful for rehab, strength work, and progressive challenge over time.

Can I come if I have an injury or chronic pain?

Yes - and it's one of the reasons many people find us. Our physio-led approach means instructors can adapt exercises to work around most conditions. If you have something complex or post-surgical, we'd recommend starting with a physiotherapy consultation so we can tailor your program from the outset.

How many times a week should I do reformer Pilates?

Two to three sessions a week is a good starting point for most people. You'll notice improvements in strength and mobility relatively quickly - and the more consistently you come, the more the results compound.

What should I wear and bring?

We recommend wearing comfortable, form-fitting clothing you can move freely in. Also bring along a drink bottle and hair tie.
