Clinical Pilates

Physiotherapy-led Pilates, built around your body and your rehabilitation goals.

Not every body needs the same approach – and that’s exactly why clinical Pilates exists. At Sum of Us, sessions are delivered upstairs in a dedicated space equipped with classical Pilates apparatus – including classical reformers, a Cadillac, and a Wunda Chair. It’s a purposeful environment, separate from the main studio, designed specifically for the kind of focused, individualised work that rehabilitation requires.

Clinical Pilates sits at the intersection of physiotherapy and rehabilitation. Where group Pilates classes are designed for general fitness and wellbeing, clinical Pilates is individually prescribed – each exercise selected and progressed by a physiotherapist based on a thorough assessment of how you move, where you’re restricted, and what your body needs to recover and function well.

Who Clinical Pilates Is For

Clinical Pilates is appropriate across a broad range of presentations and life stages:

  • People recovering from injury — whether acute, surgical, or long-standing
  • Chronic back or neck pain — where core stability and postural retraining are central to recovery
  • Post-surgical rehabilitation — following spinal, hip, knee, or shoulder procedures
  • Neurological conditions — where balance, coordination, and motor control are affected
  • Pregnancy and postnatal recovery — with exercises specifically adapted to each stage
  • Teenagers managing growth-related pain or injury — we offer dedicated teen rehabilitation sessions
  • Anyone whose general exercise program isn’t addressing their specific movement or rehabilitation needs

How It Works

Clinical Pilates at Sum of Us begins with an initial assessment – a one-on-one appointment with a physiotherapist to understand your history, identify movement deficits, and establish a clear rehabilitation plan. From there, you’ll move into supervised sessions tailored to your program.

Sessions run as P560 Physiotherapy Clinical Rehab Pilates – 40-minute classes with small group ratios that allow your physiotherapist to maintain close supervision and individualise exercise selection throughout. As you progress, your program evolves with you.

Available session formats include:

  • 1:1 Clinical Pilates — fully individualised sessions with your physiotherapist
  • 2:1 Clinical Pilates — shared sessions with a friend or training partner, at a reduced rate per person
  • Small group clinical rehab classes — including dedicated pre/postnatal and teen rehabilitation sessions
