Lymphatic Drainage Massage
Light touch, real results
Unlike most body systems, the lymphatic system has no pump. It relies on movement, breathing, and manual stimulation to keep fluid circulating — removing waste, regulating inflammation, and supporting immune function throughout the body.
When lymphatic flow is sluggish or disrupted — through surgery, illness, inactivity, or simply the accumulation of daily stress — fluid can build up in the tissues, leaving you feeling heavy, swollen, or run down. Lymphatic drainage massage works by gently stimulating this system back into efficient flow.
The technique uses light, rhythmic pressure applied along the body’s lymphatic pathways — nothing forceful, nothing uncomfortable. Most people find it deeply relaxing. Many notice a visible difference after a single session.
Who Lymphatic Drainage Is For
Lymphatic drainage massage is well suited to a wide range of people and circumstances:
- Post-surgical recovery – particularly after procedures where lymph nodes have been disturbed, or where swelling and bruising are slowing healing
- Fluid retention and puffiness – whether from travel, hormonal changes, or prolonged sitting or standing
- Pre and postnatal care – to manage swelling and support the body through the demands of pregnancy and early postpartum recovery
- Immune support – for those who are run down, frequently unwell, or recovering from illness
- Athletes and active people – to support recovery between sessions and help clear metabolic waste after heavy training
- General wellbeing – as a regular part of a self-care routine for those who want to feel lighter, clearer, and more at ease in their body
What to Expect
A session begins with a brief conversation about your health history, any recent surgery or medical events, and what you’re hoping to address. From there, your masseuse will work methodically along the lymphatic pathways – using slow, gentle strokes that follow the natural direction of lymph flow toward the body’s major node clusters.
Sessions typically run 60 minutes. Unlike remedial or deep tissue massage, there’s no firm pressure involved — the lymphatic system sits close to the skin’s surface, so light touch is both appropriate and effective.
You’ll want to drink plenty of water afterwards to support the body’s elimination process. Most people leave feeling noticeably lighter and deeply relaxed.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is lymphatic drainage massage the same as a regular massage?
Not quite. The technique, pressure, and purpose are all different. Where remedial massage works on muscle tissue with firm pressure, lymphatic drainage uses very light, precise strokes to stimulate fluid movement just beneath the skin. It's a distinct modality - and considerably more relaxing.
How will I feel afterwards?
Most people feel deeply relaxed, lighter, and - after a day or so - noticeably less puffy. Some people experience a mild increase in urination as the body processes and eliminates excess fluid, which is a normal and expected response.
How soon after surgery can I have lymphatic drainage?
This depends on the procedure and your surgeon's advice. For many surgeries, gentle lymphatic drainage can be appropriate within the first few weeks - and can meaningfully support recovery. We'd recommend checking with your surgeon first, and letting us know the details when you book.
How many sessions will I need?
For general wellbeing or mild fluid retention, one or two sessions may be all you need. For post-surgical recovery or more significant lymphatic concerns, a course of sessions spaced over several weeks tends to produce the best results. We'll give you a clear picture at your first appointment.
How long should I book?
As a general guide - 20-30 minutes works well for a targeted area, 60 minutes for a full-body session, and 90 minutes if you're post-surgical or want a more thorough treatment. Still unsure? Get in touch and we'll point you in the right direction.
