Prahran’s best sports massage, deep tissue massage, and dry needling clinic. Welcome to Sum Of Us!

The benefits of massage include relief from aches, pain, strains, soreness, stiffness and injury-related problems, but also the powerful effect of relieving tension and stress from the body.

Different massage techniques can optimise performance, relieve pain and stiffness, create an overall sense of well-being, re-energise, revitalise and rejuvenate the body.

Our highly trained myotherapists and physiotherapists offer a range of massage therapies depending on your needs.

Sports Massage

Specifically designed for athletes of all ages and both genders, sports massage targets specific areas, based on the sport and individual, to optimise performance and recovery. This form of massage reduces muscular tension and heals strained muscles to allow peak performance and minimizing the risk of injury.

There are four types of sports massage: pre-event, post-event, restorative, and rehabilitative. The best massage for you depends on your training or lifestyle situation and whether you take part in sports or not.

Deep Tissue Massage

Releases deep-seated chronic patterns of muscular tension. This form of massage loosens muscle tissues, increases blood and oxygen circulation to areas of stiffness and tension, and promotes greater flexibility and movement.

Massage therapists giving deep tissue massage use harder pressing movements to help release adhesions and drive blood flow. This might be uncomfortable for those that are unused to deep tissue. The benefits make any discomfort worth it. Deep tissue massage is very effective at reliving sports-related injury pain and osteoarthritic pain.

Trigger Point Therapy

This form of massage therapy alleviates abnormal muscle contractions, by deactivating trigger points (“knots”), and thus allows the muscle to stretch and lengthen more fully. A combination of deep and soft tissue massage is used as well as stretching to relieve tense or tight muscles, thus improving range of motion and preventing pain and injury.

Dry Needling

Dry needling is a term used to differentiate the use of needling in Western medicine from the use of needling in Chinese medicine, which is referred to as acupuncture.

Dry needling is the use of a single, fine needle which is placed into the tissue to create a physiological reaction. It often works remarkably well in reducing muscular tension, spasm, tightness and reducing fatigue. To find out more please speak to one of our qualified physios or myotherapists that perform dry needling.
